Jose Luttrell, founder of Abu Coffee, is a civil engineer by trade. He was settled into family life in Panama City, when his father, José Guillermo Luttrell Tedman, took him to revisit their family’s farmlands in Boquete which sparked his passion in specialty coffee. When his father passed away, Jose took on the elder Jose’s aspirations as his own, going deep into producing specialty coffee by starting Abu Coffee, named after the affectionate moniker his eleven grandchildren had for him. Abu broke into the Best of Panama top lots in 2017 with a Geisha Washed in 7th Place, & was among Geisha Washed and Varietal auction lots in 2021, while being a yearly favorite among National Barista & Brewer’s Cup Champions.
